Create a QR Code for your donation page

Help your supporters donate to you quickly and easily.

Updated over a month ago

QR codes are an excellent way to make your donation pages easily accessible to supporters. With a QR code, donors can scan and be directed instantly to your NationBuilder donation page, simplifying the giving process. This guide will walk you through creating a donation page, enabling recurring donations and express pay options, and generating a QR code for the page.

Step 1: Create a Donation page in NationBuilder

  1. Log in to your NationBuilder control panel.

  2. Navigate to the Website tab:

    • Click on the Website name where you want the donation page to appear.

  3. Create a new page:

    • Select the New page button.

    • In the "New page" form, enter a name for your page (e.g., "Support Our Mission").

    • Set the page type to Donation v2 and click Create page.

  1. Configure the donation page settings:

    • Go to the "Donation settings" tab.

    • Enter a donation goal (optional).

    • Set the default donation amounts or allow donors to input their own amount.

    • Enable the "Recurring donations" option to allow donors to give on a regular basis.

    • Check the box to enable "Express pay options" (e.g., Apple Pay, Google Pay) to make the donation process quicker and more convenient.

  2. Publish the page:

    • Once all settings are configured, click Save and then Publish the page.

Step 2: Copy the Donation page URL

  1. Navigate to the published donation page.

  2. Copy the full URL from your browser’s address bar.

Step 3: Generate a QR Code

You can use any free web-based QR code generator to create a QR code. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Visit a QR code generator site:

    • Example:GoQR.me or QRCodeMonkey. Some free QR code generators may set expiration dates. Ensure the generator you choose keeps your QR code active for the entire duration of your fundraising campaign.

  2. Paste your donation page URL:

    • In the QR code generator, locate the input field for the URL.

    • Paste the URL for your donation page.

  3. Customize the QR code (optional):

    • Some QR code generators allow you to customize the size, color, or style of your QR code.

  4. Download the QR code:

    • Once the QR code is generated, click the download button to save it as a PNG or JPG file.

Step 4: Use Your QR Code

  1. Add the QR code to your materials:

    • Print it on flyers, posters, or postcards.

    • Include it in your Zoom background or social media posts.

  2. Test the QR code:

    • Use your phone or a QR code scanner app to ensure it directs to your donation page correctly.

Best Practices

  • Enable recurring donations: Recurring donations provide a reliable source of funding. Make sure this option is always enabled on your donation page.

  • Highlight express pay options: Enabling Apple Pay and Google Pay on the donation page you’re linking to makes it easier for your donors to give from their phones.

  • Track QR code performance: Use NationBuilder’s recruiter tracking links to monitor the number of donors who come through your QR code.

  • Link to your general donation page with a Recruiter ID: When creating a QR code, use a long-term donation page instead of a campaign-specific page. This ensures the page remains accessible after the campaign concludes, allowing supporters to continue contributing. To track donations for a specific campaign, append a Recruiter ID to attribute the contributions accordingly.

By following these steps, you will create an accessible and effective way for supporters to contribute to your mission. Happy fundraising!
