Record your interactions

Logging contacts lets you record your communications with supporters. This will help you track the relationship over time.

Interactions between people build and sustain communities. By logging contacts in your nation, you'll build a history of your relationships with supporters that will help you engage them more thoughtfully and make the right asks of them in the future.

To log contact, go to People > Select person > Log contact.

1. Note: This is a summary of the interaction. It's up to you how detailed you want the note to be, but this is where you'll record important information about what you discussed with the person.

2. Contact method: This is how a person was contacted; for example, by phone, video call, face-to-face, or another means.

3. Social capital (Optional): If you're using social capital in your nation, this dropdown will allow you to charge social capital to someone as a result of the interaction. For example, if a volunteer was disruptive and rude at an event, you might want to reduce their social capital either as a penalty or just for your own internal tracking. How (and if) you use this option depends on your strategy for using the social capital feature.

4. Contact status (Optional): This is the outcome of the contact; for example, leaving a voicemail message or having a meaningful interaction.

5. Path (Optional): You can associate a logged contact with a path in your nation. You would typically do this because the contact is related to a particular purpose, like cultivating them into a major donor or recruiting them as a volunteer. Learn more about paths here.

6. Broadcaster (Optional): If you select a broadcaster, you're indicating that the contact was made on behalf of an official voice of your organization. For example, you might have sent out a mailing from your Executive Director or a particular program that's associated with a broadcaster in your nation.

7. Organization (Optional): This option will only appear on profiles that have a relationship with an organization in your nation. If you're recording an interaction with someone who's part of an organization, selecting the correct organization from this dropdown will make the logged contact also appear on that organization's profile. This feature is most useful if organizational relationships are important to your work.

8. Set support level (Optional): This option generally only applies to political organizations and campaigns contacting voters. You can record whether someone is a supporter or an opponent of your cause, and how strongly they feel about it. Learn more about support level here.

9. Set priority level (Optional): You can set a person's priority level, indicating either how urgently you need to follow up with them or how important they are to your work. All filter results can easily be sorted by priority level, simplifying your workflow. Learn more about priority level here.

10. Click the Person was contacted button to record the contact.

All logged contacts will display at the bottom of the person's profile in the activity feed.
