NationBuilder is upgrading its login system to provide a more modern and secure experience. This upgrade will be implemented through a series of rolling feature releases starting in early September 2024. Below are frequently asked questions regarding this transition.
What will the new login experience be after my nation has migrated?
After navigating to [yournationslug].nationbuilder.com, both control panel users and supporters will encounter a new login screen as shown below. From here, if social login is enabled, users will be able to log in with an email and password or using their Google or Microsoft account. They can also initiate a password reset if needed.
Currently, this is the only change you can expect. As additional features are rolled out, users will be able to log in using social logins and multi-factor authentication. There will also be a dedicated section in your control panel for managing login and security settings.
Will I need to change my password?
No, you will not need to change your password at this time. We will carefully migrate your email and password, ensuring a seamless transition. While you may eventually be prompted to update your password to one that is more secure, this is not required right now.
What email address will I use to log in after my nation is migrated to the new system?
You will use the email address that has been most frequently used for logging into your nation prior to the migration.
How will the migration affect our members-only area?
The migration will affect both control panel users and supporters logging in. This includes users who need to make changes to donations, credit cards, or memberships in the Supporter Portal.
Can I customize the login screen?
Yes, you can personalize the login experience by adding your logo, changing the background color, and including text above and below the login form. More details on how to do this here.
Do I need to make any changes to my custom theme?
The main change that will occur is that your nation will have a new login page. It means that all pages that include a login area are going to be affected. We’re making some changes on our side to hide password fields and make the experience as smooth as possible but it’s possible that some custom themes might still require to be updated. If you have a custom theme, read this article to find out more.
How does social login work?
Social login provides a convenient, fast, and secure way to access services by using trusted credentials from providers like Google or Microsoft. It eliminates the need for extra passwords and speeds up the login process. You will find more details about social login in this article.
