What is a slug?

The readable part of a URL

Updated over a month ago

A slug is the simple, readable part of a URL that identifies something specific on your site.

.......🐌 It's like a trail that leads people exactly where they need to go.

Three types of slugs:

  1. Nation slug – This is your site's unique identifier on NationBuilder.
Example: awesome.nationbuilder.com (where "awesome" is your nation slug)

  2. Page slug – The readable name at the end of a page's URL.
Example: example.com/donate (where "donate" is the page slug)

  3. Email slug – The identifier for your email or text blast links.
Example: example.com/r/summer-fundraiser (where "summer-fundraiser" is the email slug)

Why "slug"? Just like a slug leaves a trail, your slug creates a clear path in the URL that tells both people and search engines exactly what they're looking at.
